What Chesapeake families ask before they book
A handful of questions come up on nearly every call to our office: is this company actually registered and insured, does a written number hold once the truck shows up, what happens to the price when a flood-zone lot or a PCS deadline enters the picture, and where do your belongings sit if a closing date slips.
Everything below gets asked in real calls with Paige, none of it is filler pulled from a generic template. Don’t see your exact scenario here? A two-minute call sorts it out faster than guessing, and it beats discovering a surprise once the truck is already at your door.

How do we know Movers Chesapeake is legitimately licensed and insured?
+
Every job carries the same paperwork behind it: active Virginia registration as a household-goods carrier, plus cargo coverage on whatever's loaded. HOA offices and property managers request a certificate of insurance often enough around here that we keep one on hand year-round rather than scrambling when it's asked for. That coverage doesn't change whether the job is a studio apartment or a full haul out to Richmond.
Is your pricing hourly, or one flat total?
+
Both, in a sense, hourly is just the math we use to arrive at your number. Before your crew ever picks up a box, that hourly figure gets turned into one flat total for the whole truck, so nothing is ticking against you once the work is underway. Competitors who quote purely by the hour often see their number balloon the moment HRBT traffic gets involved; we've already priced that risk in. Run past the estimate for some reason beyond your control, and that gap comes out of what we keep, not what you owe.
Deep Creek flood-prone ground, does that change how you plan our move?
+
It genuinely can, so we bring it up before your call even ends. Isiah walks through crawlspace conditions and ground access ahead of time, making sure the truck has solid footing rather than settling into soft ground after a wet stretch. Whatever that assessment adds to the job is already folded into the number Paige gives you, never an add-on that shows up after the fact.
We're moving on PCS orders out of Naval Support Activity Hampton Roads, can you work with a government timeline?
+
Regularly. Theo treats a military move date as a fixed point on the schedule, the same way he treats tunnel traffic, something to build around rather than complain about. Government paperwork and a narrow window are routine here, and we've handled enough Hampton Roads military families to know exactly how little slack those dates leave.
How do you handle Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel traffic on a cross-town move?
+
We check the tunnel schedule the night before and route the truck around the worst of it, whether that means the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel or the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel. A crew that guesses at tunnel timing eats the overage; we'd rather plan it and keep your written number intact.
What happens to our belongings if the closing date on our new place slips?
+
This comes up constantly, closing delays are practically routine around here. Nadia arranges short-term storage sized to your actual inventory, billed month to month with the first one usually discounted about fifty percent. Once your new place is finally cleared to move into, we schedule delivery and send a crew that handles it to the same standard as your original pickup.
What does valuation coverage actually protect?
+
There are two tiers. Released value comes standard at no extra cost and pays sixty cents per pound per item, fine for heavier furniture but thin protection for anything valuable. Full-value protection, the upgrade, runs roughly one to three percent of your declared shipment value and includes up to $1 million in cargo coverage. Give Paige a rough sense of what's being shipped and she'll flag which tier makes sense for your load.
At what point does payment change hands?
+
Payment happens at the very end, after the crew has carried in the last box and placed it where you asked, never before. We take whatever's most convenient for you: cash, a check, or a card. Since Paige already locked your figure in before the truck ever left our yard, there's nothing to recalculate on the spot, you're simply confirming the number you agreed to earlier.
What if our move date needs to shift, or we're worried about which crew actually shows up?
+
For a date change, a quick call or text as soon as you know is all it takes. Between closing delays and PCS reschedules, our schedule shifts often enough that reasonable notice never triggers a fee. As for the crew, every truck under our name is staffed entirely by movers we hired and trained ourselves, your job stays with us start to finish. More often than not, whoever built your quote is also standing in your driveway on moving day.
